KLM celebrates its centennial

KLM Royal Dutch Airlines

How does a Royal Dutch company like KLM – an airline that employs more than 30,000 people and carries more than 30 million passengers each year – celebrate its 100th anniversary?

With a world-class centennial celebration in the Hangar 10 located at the edge of the company’s epicentre, Amsterdam Schiphol Airport, of course. XSAGA was responsible for the concept and bringing the entire production to life.

The result was a highly engaging ‘family celebration’ that over a period of six days saw 65,000 guests pass Customs to enjoy a never-to-be-forgotten experience.

The past, present and future of KLM, the world’s oldest international airline still operating under its original name, was staged with genuine impact.

It emerged that pretty well everyone in the Netherlands had a connection of one sort or another with the ‘Blue centennial’ and its family.

This event pulled off a triple crown, winning a Cross Media Award, a Bea World Award and an Eventex Award. In addition, KLM won the Randstad Employer Branding Award for the first time in five years, meaning indirect effects resonated for some time after the celebration closed.

“The event generated a flood of positive media content that spread out across the world via Twitter, Facebook and LinkedIn” - Eventbranche.nl
