VPRO
Commissioned by the VPRO, we produced a series of documentaries for the Holland Festival television specials, taking audiences to the heart of the creative process. Through an intimate and accessible approach, the films reveal the artistic vision, motivations and thought worlds of the festival's makers, offering viewers a unique perspective on the ideas and people behind the performances.

During the 78th edition of the Holland Festival, Dutch public broadcaster VPRO explored the world of groundbreaking performing arts. In two television specials, broadcast on NPO 2, presenters Eva Koreman, Eva Cleven and Cesar Majorana guided viewers through the festival, meeting artists who push the boundaries of theatre, dance, music and performance. From the raw musical energy of drummer Sun-Mi Hong to the layered visual language of director Łukasz Twarkowski, the programmes offered an intimate and multifaceted portrait of the festival today.
XSAGA Video was responsible for the editorial development and production of a series of short documentaries featured throughout the broadcasts. Highlights included The Seasons, the epic stage adaptation of Ali Smith's novels Autumn, Winter, Spring and Summer; Asbestos Hall, Trajal Harrell's powerful and highly stylised dance performance; and From Dust, Michel van der Aa's award-winning VR opera, an immersive experience in which music, space and technology merge into a singular sensory journey.
The short documentaries take viewers to the heart of the creative process, offering an intimate and accessible insight into the artistic vision and inner world of the makers.
With these television broadcasts and accompanying online series, VPRO transformed the Holland Festival into a rich multimedia experience—an ode to imagination and to the artists who dare to embrace the unknown.
The television specials are available to watch on NPO Start.
