Opening Academic Year 2024/2025

Erasmus University of Rotterdam

How does the community of Erasmus University Rotterdam bring out the best in each other to create societal impact?

In times of climate change, a shifting world order, and rapid societal and technological developments, Erasmus University Rotterdam (EUR) operates as a community to address these complex challenges. Collaboration is essential, and the EUR community actively seeks each other out to achieve impactful and sustainable solutions.

However, collaboration does not happen automatically. It requires a continuous process of openness, feedback, and a willingness to learn and engage in dialogue. This is not an easy task. For this reason, the “art of connecting” was central during the Opening of the Academic Year 2024–2025 on September 2, attended by more than 800 people. XSAGA Congressen was responsible for curating the programme on behalf of EUR.

During the ceremony, various speakers reflected from different perspectives on how EUR embodies the Erasmian value of “connection.” Among others, Anglican priest Mpho Tutu, Executive Board Chair Annelien Bredenoord, and the Minister of Education, Culture and Science Eppo Bruins took the stage.

In addition to a fully attended hall and high audience appreciation, the event received extensive national media coverage, including the NOS News (8 p.m. broadcast) and various national newspapers.
