Following the successful edition on Dam Square the previous year, the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra once again wanted to open the new season at a unique location in Amsterdam. This year, the orchestra brought its music to Westerpark...

Since 2021, the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra has opened its musical season not behind the closed doors of the Concertgebouw, but with a public open-air concert. The main goal: to make classical music more accessible to a wider audience.
The 2021 edition on Dam Square still had to take COVID-19 restrictions into account, but in 2022 the gates could fully open. For this edition, Westerpark was chosen as a unique setting for this grand musical spectacle. Picnic benches and the option for visitors to bring their own chairs or blankets enhanced the relaxed park atmosphere, which was also reflected in the event design.Despite several heavy rain showers, a diverse and surprisingly large audience enjoyed a free programme featuring a wide range of music. The concert was also broadcast live on television (NPO 2, AVROTROS) and radio (NPO Radio 4), making it accessible to audiences everywhere.A magical evening that will continue to resonate for a long time—for both the orchestra and everyone who experienced it.
