The Last Round

Gemeente Amsterdam

How can we celebrate both Amsterdam’s 750th birthday and the grand finale of the anniversary year together with as many Amsterdammers as possible?

On 27 October 2025, Amsterdam celebrated its official 750th birthday and the festive finale of its anniversary year with The Last Round.

The day began on Dam Square, where Mayor Femke Halsema ceremonially cut a giant birthday cake at exactly 7:50 a.m.—a symbolic nod to Amsterdam 750. Afterwards, the Mayor and all aldermen set off in colourful electric buses to share the cake with residents across all eight city districts.

We designed and coordinated the logistics behind this city-wide celebration with one clear goal: to enable as many Amsterdammers as possible to share in the city's birthday.

In total, 10,000 cakes were distributed—not only in public squares and shopping centres, but also at care homes, community centres, shelters and many other places where Amsterdammers come together. This ensured the celebration truly became a city-wide event for everyone.Working alongside an enthusiastic group of students from the ROC of Amsterdam, we helped create countless smiling faces, meaningful encounters and a genuine sense of togetherness. A fittingly sweet finale to a historic anniversary year.
